Splatoon 2 Passes Two Million Copies Sold

While the argument can be made for Splatoon 2 providing more of the same of the 2015 Wii U debut, that’s nothing against what many consider to be one of Nintendo’s freshest ideas in years and a new IP that has quickly gained a reputation as much a massive following from fans all over. Massive enough that this year’s sequel — which is just as good as, if not better than, the original — has now sold in excess of two million copies worldwide.

More than half of the total sales originate from Japan alone with sales in the US equating to around a quarter and Europe around 15%. But if the Switch’s overall hardware sales of six million units are correct, it would mean that the game has an attachment rate of one for every three consoles sold. In what’s been a very active and busy period for Nintendo, in both hardware and software, our own review points to the game likely being a prominent high in what has been a year of many high’s.
