PS3 proven to go 3.2GHz, but WiFi has a problem

Earlier today, it was learned that the PlayStation 3 had passed the FCC approval tests, and that the final clock speed of the PS3 is in fact 3.2GHz. PlayStation 3's processing power has always been the subject at hand when people talk about the PS3. Earlier reports said that Sony was downgrading the hardware, making the clock speed go down from 3.2GHz - 2.8GHz. That however, was quickly discarded, as Sony stated no such facts of a downgrading was going to happen.

Now seeing today's "official" FCC Papers saying that the clock speed is in fact 3.2GHz, it now leaves another hint of downgrading possible. When this info. was released on the internet, it came with 3 scans/papers about the PS3 and its tests. Well, we have those 3 scans, and if you closley read on the 2nd page, it says in the middle under description:

"Model: CECHA01, referred to as the EUT in this report, is a PLAYSTATION(R)3. The EUT contains Bluetooth (Ver. 2.0+EDR) module and IEEE802.11b/g WLAN module. Those modules do not transmit simultaneously."

What that basically means is that, if you were to play say Resistance online with your wireless controller (Bluetooth) and you were using the Wireless IEEE802.11b/g module in the PS3 as your internet connection, that it will not simultaneously work, thereby causing problems when playing.

Now I have just been told by a source that Sony has made a combo chip that will link the 2 non-transmiting modules to work together by time sharing. It is simply a chip in the controller that intelligently determines which device most needs to be passing information at any given time slice and allows that device to operate, switching between them as needed. This seems to be more likely, as the last thing Sony needs for PS3 is its wireless connections not working as supposed to.

TGS 2006, which starts next Friday, September 22nd and where it is most likely Sony will do most, if not all, of their explaning about the PS3's bad rep. ever since E3 2006. Stay tuned to ps3.net for more TGS 2006 news.
