Maldini's Bomb: I May Not RetirePaolo Maldini has sensationally revealed that he is having second thoughts on whether he should retire at the end of the season, and hinted that he might just carry on playing into his forties.
Milan were knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal on Tuesday night and many believed that it was Maldini’s last game in the competition but the defender is determined to re-write the history books.
“I still have plenty of energy and I guess we have to stick to our words, but those who do not change ideas just because they have said so are stupid,” Maldini told Sky Sport Italia.
“In the last few months my knees have been really painful and last year at the end of the season I couldn’t even bend them.
“Deep down inside there is a big will to continue, that’s just the way I am. No one is the same and the environment is pushing me to play on for another year.
“Three months ago I was much worse as I had to stop because of the operation but now I am feeling fine and I am playing in a position which I haven’t played in for a long time.”
He still does not play every game, but that Maldini has been playing up and down the left flank suggests that he has been feeling well physically.
The legendary defender did state that this season would be his final last year when the Rossoneri won the Champions League in May, but it now seems as if he could go back on his decision.
