There have been rumblings on this one for a while, but Gamespot has just reported RedOctane as finally confirming that a version of Guitar Hero will be making its way to the DS early next year. That's all that's been said so far, leaving us plenty of space for wild speculation.
Such as... Will we see downloadable songs or Wii connectivity? Probably not, but as the DS version is due shortly after the home console versions of Guitar Hero III, it's likely it (we still don't know what the DS game's official title will be) will share some of the same features.
We're guessing that wireless play and touchscreen stylus strumming are certainties since we can't imagine the DS would support a guitar peripheral. Let's hope instead that RedOctane bundles some sort of special guitar pick / stylus with the game.
Guitar games are starting to become something of a trend on the DS. Japanese gamers have been enjoying the sober M-06 guitar DS software since last year, and Ubisoft's forthcoming Jam Sessions also looks promising, if a little on the serious side. Guitar Hero however has the charisma and more importantly the licensed tracks to draw in stadium sized crowds.
