知名黑客George“GeoHot”Hotz公布了索尼PS3游戏机的“根密钥”。他曾经参与破解了苹果的 iPhone。 此前，黑客组织fail0verflow宣布破解了PS3的签名密钥，但可能是担心遭索尼起诉，该组织至今没有公布密钥。但它公开了PS3系统中发现的漏洞，因此能允许GeoHot在他们工作的基础上进一步破解根密钥。
获得根密钥后，用户将可以运行自制程序，不再需要较为繁琐的USB加密狗越狱方法，并且为无法降级的固件用户提供新希望。

就是之前fail0verflow表示可以算出来的公/私钥，fail0verflow虽然演示了在PS3上运行自制的LINUX系统，但没有直接公布公/私钥，只是给出了方法。
Geohot（不怕被索尼追杀）直接算出来后公布了。

他还给出了自己用这个密钥签名好的HELL WORLD程序，说已经可以放在USB狗里直接运行了。
